Adults Love Halloween, Too!
Halloween is not JUST for kids. Anyone can enjoy it, no matter their age. But, you can bring it up a couple notches and make it a bit more sophisticated, if you’re so inclined. I invite you to vamp it up with some gorgeous, sexy Halloween decorations!
A Glamorous Entryway
Pardon the poor lighting in the picture above, but it does make for a spooky kind of ethereal picture, doesn’t it?!
This is the area just inside my front door. In feng shui, the front door, also called “the mouth of chi”, is where the energy enters the home, so I make sure to pay special attention to the door and everything around it. That means keeping it clean, orderly, well-maintained and fresh. In my opinion, it also means keeping this area in harmony with the seasons.
The entryway, itself, is called the “ming tang”. It’s also very important, because it’s the transition between the outside world and your inner world. It’s ideally a place where you would leave your keys, hang up your coat, place your purse, etc. Being greeted by something lovely, fun, and sexy, like the decorations above, can go a long way towards enhancing your chi.
Fun Halloween Door Knockers
I saw these Halloween decorations at the Dollar Tree, a couple weeks ago. I was tempted to get one, but I think I’m going to make something out of all the lovely paper and craft supplies that I have, IF I can spare the time. That’s a big if. We’ll see…
Halloween Accents
I LOVE coming into my apartment and seeing this display! I usually like to have one up for all of October, but I was a little late, this year. Still, I’m enjoying it in the week leading up to Halloween. I’ve collected a nice cache of stuff in the three years since I’ve had this apartment. I had most of this in my storage space and I found a few new-to-me items at the thrift store.
I also found a card at Trader Joe’s that really helped pull everything together. It has two martinis and it says “Caution: May Contain Spirits”. That is so clever! The area that I have this in is also my “Helpful People” section, which is thought to be the best place to connect to and appeal to “Spirit”, “God”, “the Divine”…whatever you want to call it. I know that Spirit has a sense of humor, so I think it’ll appreciate the card and some of the other funny things on display.
Practical Magic
As mentioned, I do have some practical items, here, in addition to the Halloween decorations. There’s the red glass heart where I keep my keys, the case for my glasses, a pouch for bus tickets and other paper items, and the gold bag of face masks, should I need one for whatever reason.
I am also keeping my Halloween baking supplies here, in the orange bowl. This area (small apartment, LOL) is also right next to my kitchen. Instead of handing out candy, this year, I think I’m going to hand out some Halloween themed pencils and possibly sweet potato brownie cupcakes. I just LOVE those Bone Appetit cupcake liners! I also love the napkins that say, “If you’ve got it, haunt it”. Cute and sexy! It’s too bad that Joann isn’t carrying them again, this year, but they do have these Halloween cupcake liners.
Glamorous and Sexy
I didn’t really plan to put a candle or a flower or a string of beads on my display, honestly. Those were just items that I had in my autumn bag, because that’s how I roll, LOL. But, you could plan to include some in your display, if you have them on-hand. I feel that they lend an air of sophistication that your normal Halloween decorations just don’t have.
Flower Power
By the way, there’s a trick I discovered, when I went to unpackage the gorgeous orange silk flower that I got from the Dollar tree. I didn’t plan to use it for this display, either, but it just sort of came together. I got the flower because I loved the color, shape, and sparkliness of it. I had meant to get some real flowers, but didn’t find any suitable ones in my budget. Anyway, I realized that there was a clip on the back of the flower that JUST fit on the lip of my gold bud vase. Sure, it’s not real, but I also don’t have to worry about it dying on me and I’m sure I’ll carry it over to my regular autumn display, when I get that together. Isn’t that a clever trick, though?!
Fabulous and Fangtastic
I did a little happy dance when I found this adorable “fangtastic” bag on the Autumn solstice, because it is so cute! It’s not really meant to carry everyday stuff, like I asked it to do for two full weeks, LOL. I had to get another one, when that fell apart. However, I’m sure it would hold up well for a round or two of trick-or-treating. And it definitely adds something to the display, in my opinion.
This is another display that I have. I was out walking in my neighborhood and came across a bucket of free freshly cut marigolds. I had just gotten some mini pumpkins and was surprised at how great the marigolds looked next to the pumpkins, since they are almost exactly the same color! There’s a gold bud vase, a white pumpkin for contrast, and my black cat mask. All of this is resting on a gorgeous lilac pashmina scarf.
I see this display every time I walk from my office to my kitchen and I absolutely love it!
Witchiness
Last year, I wanted some magnets for my refrigerator, to keep notes and stuff, and I couldn’t find any that I really liked. I wondered if I could figure out how to make some? VOILA! These sexy witch magnets were born. I made up a bunch and I meant to sell them, but unfortunately came across a copyright issue re: the images. However, I don’t think there’s anything preventing me from teaching others how to make them.
If you want a private lesson, let me know. I realize it’s getting close to Halloween and that’s not the best timing. However, I like witchy things all year round and I know there are others who do, too 😉
